In his book, Golf My Way, Jack Nicklaus states “ I regard keeping the head very steady, if not absolutely stock still, throughout the swing as the bedrock fundamental in golf”. If this was so important to arguably the greatest golfer so far maybe we should take notice and work on just that.
My tip this week, or drill, is what I call “Head against the wall” drill. Just take a yoga block, or pillow and place it against any wall in your home. Now take your golf stance, bending over until you can position your forehead against the block. Take an aim stick or golf club, or just place your left hand on your right shoulder and your right hand on your left shoulder, and make a swing, all the way back and all the way to your finish, making sure the block does not fall to the floor. This will train your body to maintain its posture, which in turn will keep your head level and steady from start to finish.
